Cicada Killer

Cicada Killer on top of a Cicada
Cicada Killers get their name from hunting cicadas. Most commonly, people get irritated because these large flying insects appear to look like oversize yellow jackets.
- Appearance:
1-1 5/8", yellow and black, can be confused with a yellow jacket; however cicadas are mush larger in size.
- Behavior:
Though Male cicada killers cannot sting, females can. They will only sting when stepped on, most commonly from children playing in the yard.
- Habitat:
These flying insects use the ground to nest. Cicadas do not share nests, which will make a cicada infestation ruin a lawn. You will be able to notice cicada nests because of small dirt piles they leave behind. Cicadas are found across America except the west coast, Hawaii and Alaska.
- Tips For Control:
Treating these pests must be performed by dusting/ using aerosol. In most states this treating method can only be performed by train technicians. If you wish to have a licensed pest control technician treat you cicada infestations please use our “Find A Pest Control Company” feature.
